Chain restaurants are easy, fast, and fun. But with convenience comes risk for Celiacs. I made this article to help you find safe chain restaurants for when you are on a road trip, or just craving a hamburger. Keep in mind that everyone is different and has different levels of sensitivity, so if you are extremely sensitive, make sure that the restaurants fully understand what to do.

#1: In-n-out

Location: In-n-out is a great option for people who live in California.

How to Order: The trick with ordering at In-n-out is to make sure that first of all, the place isn't too busy. They are more likely to cross-contaminate your food if you are one of many customers who are hungry. If it is not too full, you should make sure they change their gloves and that they know it is a gluten allergy. You should order animal style, which is when they use lettuce instead of a bun.

#2: P.F.Changs

How to Order: The staff is generally knowledgeable, just let them know the basic procedure: changing gloves, cross-contamination, etc. Also, make sure it is gluten free by looking at the plate. Usually for gluten free meals they have the P.F.Changs logo on the edge. If it doesn't, check with the waiter. They may just not do it at that location or they may have run out. At P.F.Changs they have a gluten free menu.

Recommendations: I highly recommend their shrimp with lobster sauce, egg drop soup, and their fried rice.

#3: California Pizza Kitchen

Location: California

How to Order: Just let them know that you are celiac, and if they seem knowledgeable or know what you are talking about you are safe to eat. A general rule is that if they say "what is celiac?" or if no-one at the restaurant knows what you mean you shouldn't eat there.

#4: Asian Box

Location: Northern California

Notes: Asian Box is a really great option for people who are not as experienced with ordering gluten free. Everything there is completely GF!

Recommendations: I recommend their shrimp rolls and their chicken.

#5: Legal Sea Foods

Location: East Coast

Notes: Although this is not really a "fast food" restaurant, Legal Seafoods has a very knowledgeable staff, and they have the best dinner rolls I have ever had!
